A three-week class for people interested in an aviation mechanics career starts Oct. 26 at Big Bend Community College.
Space is limited, so you should apply as soon as possible, said Rebecca Milligan, recruiting coordinator for BBCC’s aviation maintenance technology program.
“This is for people who want to explore a new career in an aerospace discipline that anticipates job openings throughout the state,” Milligan said.
Participants have the option of attending a daytime class for three consecutive Fridays or a weeknight class meeting Tuesday and Thursday.
Friday classes will be held Oct. 26, Nov. 2 and Nov. 9 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Weekday classes will be held Oct. 30 and Nov. 1, 5, 8, 13 and 15 from 6-9 p.m.
Participants will get an introduction to aerospace careers and the opportunity to work on airframes of both fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters. Students also will get to work on power plants of both jet and propeller-driven aircraft and helicopter engines.
“It gives them a sample of what a job in aerospace actually looks like,” Milligan said.
Students completing the class will qualify for a National Career Readiness Certificate, which is a test for job readiness and measures skill levels in reading, math and finding information. The certificate is recognized by employers locally and nationally, Milligan said.
