Eleonora Robinson: New teachers join staff at local schools

Lind and Ritzville Grade Schools are sharing and learning from the experience of music teacher, Eleonora Robinson. Originally from Russia, Robinson moved to the United States 11 years ago and brought with her 20 years of teaching experience.

Robinson served as a teacher at a music college in Russia and taught a student orchestra course. Her experience in music spans through band, choir, orchestra and general music education.

When Robinson first moved to the US with her daughter, she did not speak English but has self-taught herself the language over the past 11 years. She began learning English as a special education assistant and the experience helped her get a foot in the door.

Robinson served as a substitute teacher in Olympia and taught at the nine schools in the district area. She received her bachelor’s degree from a State Music College in Russia, and a spent five years at Kazan State Music Conservatory (Academy of Music) where she earned her master’s degree.

Robinson believes communication is key to success in the school system and has set out to work with other teachers in the districts to create comprehensive lessons throughout the different subjects. Her main goal is to engage the students in the subject matter with enthusiasm and positive energy.

“I love it here, seeing the kids with each other, and kids respecting teachers,” Robinson said.

As a music teacher, Robinson likes to present her students with hands on activities and assignments that challenge them. She also sees a great importance in cultural education and has implemented assignments where students bring in news about cultures they read about and keep a journal.

Robinson is dedicated to making sure music programs continue in schools and help students to learn about all types of music, composers and instruments. Robinson is filled with ideas and hopes the opportunities provided to the students can help them succeed in the classroom.

To contact Robinson, call the Lind Grade School at 677-3481, the Ritzville Grade School at 659-0232, or by email at [email protected].
