The LaCrosse-Washtucna Lady Tigercats began league play against Rosalia on Thursday, Sept. 13, and walked away with a win.
The high-energy game began with two match wins for the Lady Tigercats, 25-20 and 25-21. Both teams found success through strong serves and hits.
The Lady Spartans fought back in the third match to earn a win over the Lady Tigercats, 22-25. The Lady Tigercats took to the court in the fourth match with high enthusiasm and confidence to take the final win of the evening, 25-17.
Senior athlete Logan Harder led the team with 10 kills during the four-match game. Lindsey Miller, setter for the Lady Tigercats, earned 18 assists during the game.
Head coach for the Lady Tigercats, Sarah Mayer, complimented Kadie Whinery for her ability to alter her serve during the match. Whinery’s success at changing her serve provided her with four aces during the game.
Sophomore athletes Brooklynn Hostetler and Gail Harder also stepped up as leaders for the Lady Tigercats team to help assist with the win. Hostetler earned two blocks during the game and Harder had four digs.
“The team did a great job communicating,” said Mayer. “I am proud of the girls adjusting for tips and covering the block and hitters… The team is still working on transitioning smoothly and consistently.”
On Saturday, Sept. 15, the Lady Tigercats traveled to Rosalia for the Rosalia Tournament. The team first matched up against Coeur d’Alene (CDA) Charter Academy at 9 a.m. and all games were played the better of two matches.
CDA Charter won the first match with a score of 14-25, but the Lady Tigercats fought back in the second match and earned a 25-18 win. The Lady Tigercats then faced the Lind-Ritzville/Sprague Broncos and lost with scores of 15-25, 21-25.
In pool play, the Lady Tigercats then matched up against Rosalia for the second time in the week. The Lady Tigercats lost the first set 18-25 and the second match proved tough, but ended with a win for the LW team, 26-24.
In the first game in the single elimination tournament, the Lady Tigercats won two against Rosalia with scores of 25-17, 25-19. After winning against the Lady Spartans, the LW team played Colton.
The Lady Tigercats lost in two matches against Colton, 25-10 and 25-7, and ended the Lady Tigercats game play for the Saturday tournament.
On Tuesday, Sept. 18, the Lady Tigercats faced Tri-Cities Prep in a non-league game. The LW team lost in three matches with scores 12-25, 19-25 and 22-25. Hostetler had two aces for the team, Shayla Sisk had four kills, Miller had nine assists, Whinery had two blocks and Logan Harder had four digs.
The LW team matches up against Pomeroy on Thursday, Sept. 20, beginning at 5 p.m. in Pomeroy.
