Eastern Adams County's Only Independent Voice Since 1887
The Washtucna Community Church Fellowship Hall is the scheduled location for a lasagna feed fundraiser on Saturday, Sept. 15, from 5:30-7 p.m.
The meal is provided by free will donation only and serves as a fundraiser to help make necessary repairs to the church basement.
Currently, the church basement is used for activities such as Sunday school and Vacation Bible School.
But due to age and water damage, the church basement is not in a condition to keep hosting these events.
The water damage has been lessened by the installation of rain gutters and proper drainage systems, but the damage has already been done. Experts have recommended the installation of a ceramic tile floor that would be able to resist moisture.
Along with the need for a new floor, the Fellowship Hall is in need of priming and painting. The painting is needed on the inside and the outside of the building.
The estimated quote for labor and new flooring totals around $22,000. The church has about $7,000 in the building fund that could be used for the project, but it still leaves around $15,000 to be raised.
The church is over 100 years old and is one of the only churches in the area that maintains a full-time pastor.
The lasagna feed fundraiser is the first fundraiser for the church, and a table is being set up at the Lions Club Sponsored Community Yard Sale on Saturday, Sept. 15, as well.
Over the next few months, more fundraisers are going to be planned. An upcoming fundraiser for the church is going to be a car wash, but the date and location is still to be determined.
The Washtucna Community Church is located at 705 East Booth Street in Washtucna.
