Variety in vendors to provide vital information at health fair

The seventh annual Health Fair in Pioneer Plaza hosted by Adams County Public Hospital District No. 2 takes place on Saturday, Sept. 8, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

The annual event provides visitors with an extensive amount of health and safety information as well as providing community members with opportunities for health tests. Sponsors for the event are Coast to Coast Healthcare Services, Toshiba, Avista, Premera Blue Cross, East Adams County Healthcare Foundation and Inland Imaging.

The complete list of vendors for the Health Fair are: Birth & Baby, Adams County Developmental Disability, Adams County Health Department, Adams County Sheriff’s Office, Aging & Adult Care of Central Washington, Avista Utilities, Rockwood Health System, Assured Home Health & Hospice, Coast to Coast Healthcare, Costco, Community Choice (SHIBA), Central Washington Sleep Diagnostic Center, Region 8 Crime Victim Service Center, Dr. David Engen (orthodontist), Hand to Health Therapeutic Massage, INBC, Molina Healthcare, Rose Garden Estates, Providence SHMC, Shriners Hospital, Dr. Warren Kragt (chiropractor), Life Care Center of Ritzville, Northwest MedStar (pediatric ambulance), Ritzville Police Department, St. Luke’s Rehabilitation Institute, Susan G. Komen Eastern Washington affiliate and Washington State Patrol.

Activities

A variety of new vendors and returning health labs highlight this year’s Health Fair.

Reduced fee labs are available and include a $10 general health panel and a $25 Vitamin D test. Vitamin D tests are also available at the hospital on Friday, but not at a discounted rate.

INBC is returning with the mobile blood drive and are at the event from 10 a.m. until 1:45 p.m. To schedule an appointment, log on to http://www.inbcsaves.org or contact Vicky Johnson at 659-5404.

The Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) assists visitors with applying for services such as cash assistance, basic food assistance, medical assistance programs, drug and alcohol treatment services, childcare services and replacement EBT Card.

Visitors can also drop off paperwork, complete an eligibility review, mid-certification review or make changes to an existing case.

Avista Utilities is having an electric power line safety demonstration, which is located in the parking lot across from the train depot. The demonstration is on a trailer and will display the dangers and proper procedures for working around power lines. The purpose of the trailer demonstration is for community education and information for individuals who work around power lines, such as firefighters, police and first responders.

Central Washington Sleep Diagnostic Center is providing an information booth that will help visitors discuss sleeping disorders for both children and adults. The center focuses on certain sleeping disorders like insomnia, narcolepsy and sleep apnea.

Crime Victim Service Center Region 8 (CVSC8) is an organization that assists crime victims receive support, information and guidance, as well as other victim-focused services. CVSC8 helps with a variety of crimes, including fraud, burglary, assault and cyber crime.

Sound Oxygen Service (SOS) is a company from Moses Lake who is dedicated to helping individuals sleep and breathe easier. SOS provides individuals with information on medical equipment to use in the home that helps with sleep apnea and oxygen.

Youth Activities

This year’s Health Fair provides the most variety in children’s games than the past years and First Avenue Storage sponsors the games. Children have the opportunity to spin the prize wheel, play the beanbag toss, get a glitter tattoo, participate in the cupcake walk and compete in a treasure hunt.

The prize wheel rewards children with healthy snacks and ice cream coupons depending on where the wheel stops at. The beanbag toss awards include healthy snacks and school supplies.

In the vendor treasure hunt, the first place prize is a family activity basket, second place is movie theatre tickets and third place is a variety of kids’ games. Adults can also join in the vendor treasure hunt and for adults, first place is a flat screen TV, second place is a gift basket and third place is a Bronco card.

The cupcake walk is in honor of the 60th anniversary that the hospital celebrated earlier this year. The cupcake walk is an ongoing competition throughout the Health Fair.

Food and Retail Vendors

The Ritzville Festivals Association is going to be selling hotdogs, German sausage, cookies and drinks. Andy’s Fruit and Produce is having a stand this year, complete with fresh fruit and vegetables for sale.

A retail booth selling quilts, table runners and other handmade quilting creations are also present at this year’s Health Fair.
