August is a deadly month on Washington’s roadways. According to the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS), from 2006 - 2010, on average, more impaired driving deaths occurred in August than any other month.
That’s why between Aug. 17 and Sep. 3, extra officers are looking for DUI drivers during the annual “Drive Hammered, Get Nailed” campaign.
Drunk drivers can exhibit a variety of behaviors depending upon impairment level. For example, those who know they are impaired:
• Travel slower than the posted speed limit
• Appear to be drunk, with their face close to the windshield
