Horse clinic provided in Ritzville

A “Ready to Show” horse clinic is being held on Saturday, Aug. 18, at the Ritzville Rodeo Arena. Ritzville Rodeo Queen, Haley Oestreich, is leading the clinic.

Registration and check-in begins at 8:30 a.m. and all contestants then receive a final schedule of events. From 9-10 a.m., participants work on safety on the ground, fitting and showing with their horse in the arena.

Immediately following the participants have a chance to mount and warm up before clinic work in Western Pleasure, Western Equation and Trail. Each of the classes has different age groups and a simple course for each category for the show will be posted during the lunch break.

From noon until 1 p.m., participants have a lunch break and are asked to bring a lunch to the event. The lunch break also serves as the latest time individuals can register to compete in the mini show, which begins at 1:15 p.m. Jennifer Kuster, owner and trainer of ShowBiz, is judging the mini show.

After the show, ribbons are awarded to the first through fifth place finishers in each age category. Contestants in the eight and under age group that finish below fifth place will receive participation ribbons. A high point prize for each age group is also going to be awarded.

Registration for the clinic is $30, but if individuals mention seeing the article in The Journal, they can qualify for a discounted rate of $25. Payments can be made in cash or checks and all checks should be made out to the Ritzville Rodeo Association.

Any individual interested in participating in the horse clinic can contact Oestreich at 659-0414 or 347-6260, or by email at [email protected]. Oestreich can send an electronic registration form to any interested participants.

Individuals who have already received a registration form can mail it to Oestreich at 1902 East Weber Road in Ritzville.
