Richard “Dick” Leonard passed away on July 9, in Spokane, at the age of 86.
He was born to on July 9, 1926, in Northport, Wash., to Alva and Dorothy Leonard.
He attended West Valley High School and joined the Navy on July 9, 1943, at the age of 17. After returning in 1947, he continued his military service in the reserves until 1955.
In 1951, he married Eileen Keebaugh who would stand by his side for the next 60 years. The couple continued to live in Spokane raising their four children until 1974, when they moved to Lind. Once he retired in 1988, they returned to Spokane.
He enjoyed fishing, bingo, garage sales, family vacations, voting, western movies, and following kids and grandkids to sporting events and community activities. As life slowed down, the couple moved to Parkway Village Assisted Living where he was deeply involved in all activities.
He is survived by his children, Darcia “Dee” Bowers of Reardan, Ron (Linda) Leonard, Rick (Lori) Leonard and Paula (David) Bafus; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
A viewing was held Thursday, July 12 and funeral services were held at on Saturday, July 14. Heritage Funeral Home of Spokane has been entrusted with the arrangements. Heritage is located at 508 North Government Way in Spokane.
