Balfe awarded EWU scholarship

Mark Balfe of Cheney, has been awarded the Benjamin Cheney Scholarship for $595 for the 2012-2013 academic year at Eastern Washington University.

This award is given to a continuing senior male, with a 3.0 or higher GPA, as a memorial scholarship by Ruth Cheney Streeter in memory of her grandfather, Benjamin, who was an early day pioneer, businessman and educator.

Balfe is the son of DeAnna Balfe of Ritzville and graduated from Ritzville High School in 2007, where he played basketball for two years.

Balfe is a senior majoring in pre-law at EWU, and is the secretary, treasurer and alternate captain of the EWU Mock Trial Team. He also has presented at the 2011 EWU Creative Works Student Research Symposium, and works as a tutor with Academic Success Center.
