Bernadine (Doerschlag) Hegle passed away at the age of 95 on May 13 in Spokane.
She was born May 11, 1917, to Louis and Gertrude Dahmen Keller in Sprague, Wash. She had an older brother: Joseph Claude Keller and a younger sister: Margaret Mary Keller Keehner.
She graduated from St. Joseph Academy in Sprague and then attended Eastern Washington College. She married Robert Harold Doerschlag on June 14, 1934. They farmed and raised cattle in the Sprague area until Bob’s death in 1958. Together they had five children: Roberta, Raymond Dale, Carol Ann, Georgia Lee and Robert Dean.
She drove school bus as a substitute for the Sprague School District, worked at the Sprague Grange Supply and raised her family. She loved to dance and play cards. After Bob’s death she moved to Ritzville where she worked at Rummer’s Clothing Store and sold Avon.
She married Michael Hegle of Ritzville in 1963. In 2002, she fell and broke her hip and was unable to return to living on her own, so she moved to The Touchmark Assisted Living in Spokane. There, she enjoyed meeting people and attending activities. Bingo was her favorite and she loved to share her winnings with her family. She was a very giving lady. In 2009, after another fall, she moved to St Joseph Care Center.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Gertrude; a brother, Claude Keller; an infant daughter, Georgia Lee; husband, Robert; son, Dale; two grandchildren, Janelle and Richard; her second husband, Michael Hegle; and a daughter, Roberta.
She is survived by a son, Dean (Betty) Doerschlag of Reardan; daughter Carol (Ron) Brown of Oakesdale; stepdaughters, Susan Gibbs and Paula Peters; grandchildren, Shellie (Brad) Duncan of Spokane Valley, Brian (Cindy) Archer, Bradley Archer and Anyia Archer all of Missoula, Mont., Bob (Pandora) Brown of Athol, Idaho, Phillip (Karla) Brown of Thornton, Wash., Michael (Michelle) Brown of Oakesdale, Don (Angel) Brown of Spokane, Julie (Jon) Selin of Brentwood, Calif., and John (Kammy) Doerschlag of Spokane. As well as 14 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandsons; a sister, Margaret Keehner of Spokane Valley, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation is to be held on Monday, May 21, at 10 a.m. at Mary Queen of Heaven Catholic Church in Sprague and followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Interment is at Macabee Cemetery in Sprague. Danekas Funeral Home-Ritzville is entrusted with arrangements.
