The 2012 “Girls ‘n Pearls” float made their first parade this past Saturday in Spokane for the Lilac Parade. It was a long day filled with lots of laughter, fun, waiting patiently and meeting new people.
The day started with John and Jan Marshall, and Aaron Esser hauling the float up to Spokane at 5 a.m. and then after hearing the other floats sound systems they decided ours wasn’t good enough so they called “Car Toys” and had a new sound system/speakers installed on the float and boy was it good and loud! Thank you festivals for that!
We got up there around noon and started to get ready for the judging. Stephanie White and Jodie Esser helped us get into our dresses in our new dressing room, aka the back of the float trailer. Judging took place around 2 p.m. After judging we attended an activity at the Women’s Health Center where you could meet the other royalties.
After the activity we loaded up on the float and moved the float to the staging area where we sat for another couple hours waiting for our turn to get in the parade.
The excitement began when we finally headed down to get in line for the parade and at that time we received our third place plaque for our Division. We were so excited and proud to have got that.
The parade was a blast and we had a lot of fun. Thank you to Debi Balfe, John and Jan Marshall, Dwight Bowman, Sandy Tracy, and our parents and siblings for being with us on this exciting day!
Amalia, Taylor and myself look forward to many more fun parades this summer and hope you can make it out to see us.
