LRS tennis continues on to districts

The LRS tennis team travels to Shadle Park on May 10-11 to compete in the district tournament. The Broncos have had a successful season and plan to continue their success to move on to the state level.

The girls’ team finished second in the league, losing only to Reardan in a match up earlier this season.

The team is receiving a trophy for this accomplishment and duplicates should be ordered so every school, Lind, Ritzville and Sprague, can receive recognition.

The boys’ team finished in fourth with three wins and threes losses, an impressive finish considering the majority of the boys’ team is young and relatively new to the sport.

The No. 1 girl’s doubles team of Kelly Melville and Chelsey Heidenreich has not lost a match all season, though they have had some close battles. As the No. 1 doubles team, the girls automatically move forward to the district competition this week.

During the match last week, the LRS No. 1 girl’s single player, Nozomi Miyamato suffered a sprained ankle. She is out for the remainder of the season since the doctor recommended she stay off of it for at least a week.

Tracy Melville, previously the No. 2 girls singles player, is continuing on to the district tournament in the place of her teammate.

The No. 1 boy’s singles player, Zach Swanger, has performed well all season and also automatically moves on to the district tournament. Swanger finishes his season with 5-1 record, as did David Ruse, the No. 2 singles player for the LRS team.

Zeth Swanger and Alex Wheeler, the No. 1 boys’ doubles players, have also secured a trip to the district tournament.
