Eastern Adams County's Only Independent Voice Since 1887
This past Thursday was the National Day of Prayer. I was greatly surprised to find, not only did our churches not come together for it, as they do for Good Friday, but, not one of them was planning on joining in.
There were churches and groups all over the country that joined together to pray for our Nation, for the leaders of this nation, for our children, for families, for the economy, our military and so forth.
If ever this nation, and yes this town, needed prayer it is this year. I tried calling some of the churches; mostly I got answering machines, but was able to reach three, my own pastor being one of them. My pastor was on his way to a prayer group in Odessa. I reached two other pastors, and to my shock and disappointment, they did not think it was a big deal, and were very blasé about it.
Our town is in an economic crisis as businesses are closing with nothing to replace them. Families are in crisis and drinking and drugs are a problem. And this country is facing huge problems like who gets into office in all areas of government, is vital to what we will face in the coming years.
Luckily, KMBI radio was connected to groups all around the country and I was able to hear them pray, and be in agreement with them, but, how much better it would have been to be with people in this community and not only prayed a wide prayer for our country and leaders, but, pray specifics for our town and it’s people.
