Dorothea Mildred (Bastron) Klein, died on Dec. 7, 2011, at the age of 91, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tacoma, Wash., after a short illness.
She was born in Ritzville, on July 29, 1920, but moved to Tacoma as a young child. She married Victor Dorn; later married David Klein on Nov. 10, 1951, and they enjoyed fifty years of marriage, until his death on Jan. 5, 2002.
Besides her love of baking, sewing, and gardening, she was a very active member in her churches. For many years, she organized receptions and luncheons, worked on quilts, and knitted thousands of caps for children in need throughout the community. She and her husband were part of a group that walked the mall as exercise for several years and made many friends there. She had a quiet, gentle, loving, and caring spirit that will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Friedrich ‘Fred’ and Katharina ‘Katie’ (Eckhardt) Bastron; step-brother, Alton Bastron; husbands, Victor Dorn and David Klein, along with her daughter, Janet Dorn Weisser on May 2, 2011.
She is survived by her son-in-law, Larry Weisser of Seattle; grandchildren. Barbara Weisser of Worley, Idaho, Bob Weisser, Seattle, and several Wellsandt relatives in the Ritzville, Spokane and Seattle areas.
A memorial service was held on Dec. 13, 2011, at First Christian Church-Disciples of Christ in Tacoma. Arrangements were entrusted to Mountain View Funeral Home, with interment at Mountain View Memorial Park, Lakewood, Wash.
