The WSU Research in the Dryland Cropping Area and Adams Conservation District Wheat Growers Meeting will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 31, at the American Legion Hall. This meeting is co-sponsored by WSU Extension and Adams Conservation District.
“This program is focused on improving wheat production in Adams County including preventing foot root, improving weed control and enhancing marketing skills,” comments Aaron Esser, WSU Extension Agronomist. The Adams Conservation District election, registration and refreshments will start at 8 a.m., and the workshop is scheduled to adjourn no later than 1:30 p.m. Pesticide credits have been requested.
The agenda will feature “WSU Winter Wheat Breeding Updates and New Releases” by Arron Carter, WSU Winter Wheat Breeder. The agenda also includes Ian Burke, WSU Weed Scientist who will present “Weed Control in Dryland Winter Wheat Systems.”
Aaron Esser will present “Making Cents with Fungicide,” while “Wheat Marketing on a Roller Coaster” is the title of Randy Fortenbery, WSU Small Grains Agricultural Economics Endowed Chair, presentation focused on current market conditions. Larry Lutcher, OSU Extension, will present “CRP Takeout Research” which will guide growers through research results focused on methods to incorporating land in the Conservation Reserve Program back into crop production.
The agenda also includes the 6th Grade soil conservation essay awards and highlights from the Ritzville High School FFA program.
The agenda will continue in the afternoon with Ann Swannack, NRCS District Conservationist, who will give an update on the challenges and changes in the department and record keeping as they impact wheat producers in Adams County. Curtis Hennings, Adams Conservation District Board Member will conclude the program with a summary of the Districts projects and programs. Lunch will be provided.
