Scratching and clawing their way back into league contention has not been easy for the Broncos, but the local basketball team has made progress since the start of the New Year, winning four of five contests.
Tuesday, the team enjoyed a bit of redemption, knocking off the Reardan Indians 63-59 in Reardan’s gym. Last Saturday night, the Broncos almost upended Davenport, but came up two points short in overtime, 56-54.
Lind-Ritzville/Sprague is 7-7 overall and 4-6 in Bi-County League play. They lost to Reardan and Davenport in the first half of the season, but have turned their game around and are proving to be a competitive opponent.
Earlier this year the Broncos fell at home to Reardan, 67-43.,Tuesday they set to work early, taking a 33-26 lead at the end of the first half.
Colby Starring led the team in scoring with 14. Tyler Frederick delivered 11 points and Conner O’Neill scored 10. Jesse Miller had eight points and Dylan Hartz added seven. Drew Hartz scored four points while Jake Dewald and Chris Steinmetz each contributed three. Brandon Knodel tacked on two.
In Saturday’s narrow loss to Davenport, the difference in the game was Davenport’s third quarter effort. They outscored the Broncos 15-11 in the period to take a 36-35 lead. In the fourth quarter the Broncos were able produce a 9-8 advantage, enough to tie the game. Davenport would win the overtime battle with 12-10 effort.
Dylan led the team scoring with 15, followed by 14 from Starring. Miller, Steinmetz and Frederick each put in six points. O’Neill had four and Knodel three.
