Winter finally delivers snow storms

The National Weather Service forecasts snow is expected to continue falling in the region through Friday morning.

The first significant winter storms are arriving late this year, as December was one of the driest on record in Adams County.

Snow fell briefly in Ritzville on Tuesday afternoon, accompanied by hail.

Wednesday morning residents in the area were greeted by the first measurable snowfall of the year.

Early Wednesday morning, Greg Galbreath reported two-tenths of an inch of snow at the local weather monitoring station in Ritzville.

The National Weather Service predicted Wednesday snow accumulation between two and four inches during the daytime with a predicted high temperature of 29 degrees with wind gusts as high as 20 miles per hour.

Forecasters called for Thursday’s daytime snow accumulation of three to five inches with continuing snow during the nighttime hours, bringing the potential of another one to three inches of more snow.

Snow is expected to fall into the early hours on Friday, with a chance of rain or snow after 10 a.m., and less than a half of inch of snow accumulation during the day.

Saturday and Sunday, residents can expect a 30 percent chance of snow and rain with the snow level rising to 2200 feet.
