LHS student collecting eyeglasses for those in need

Micheala Doyle, a senior at Lind High School, is collecting eyeglasses for those in need of prescription lenses in the community. Doyle set up drop boxes for the eyeglasses at three locations, Jim’s Market, Ritzville Drug Company and Harvest Foods. The fundraiser began on Jan. 2 and the first collection will run until Feb. 2. Doyle will then put out new boxes and do another collection from Feb. 2 until Mar. 2.

Doyle decided to collect eyeglasses as her senior project after she attended a Lions Club meeting last year and learned that other Lions Clubs around the state collect eyeglasses.

Doyle believed that it would be a good yearly fundraiser for the Lind Lions Club and decided to make it her senior project.

Any type of prescription lenses can be donated including prescription sunglasses, and all different sizes and styles are encouraged. Doyle is hoping to help all members of the community, including both children and adults.

In August, Doyle received her first pair of corrective lenses and realized how much it helped her.

“I have first-hand experience, getting glasses made a big difference in my life,” said Doyle. “I just want to help as many people as possible and help them be able to see clearly. I’ve always wanted to do something that would help my community.”

Doyle’s goal is to have the majority of the glasses go to those individuals in the community who are not able to afford or do not have medical insurance that will cover eye care.

Doyle was born and raised in the Lind community, giving her the passion and will to want to give back to the community that helped raise her. Doyle has participated in volleyball, FFA, Kennel Club and attends almost every sports game to support her school and classmates.

After graduating from Lind High School this spring, Doyle hopes to attend either Spokane Community College or Spokane Falls Community College in order to remain close to home. Doyle wants to either do secretarial or administrative work after college.

The eyeglasses can be dropped off in designated boxes located next to the main doors at Jim’s Market, Ritzville Drug Company and Harvest Foods during regular business hours.
