ms from the Heart” fundraiser for his senior project in November and when it concluded on Friday, Dec. 16, he could not believe the success.
Knodel had a goal to donate a ham to at least 40 families in the Lind community for the holiday season. Knodel surpassed his goal and with the $2,200 he received in donations, he was able to purchase over 100 hams.
“It was a huge success, more than I could have ever hoped for,” said Knodel. “I’m so thankful. I couldn’t have done it without the community’s help.”
On Dec. 20, Knodel hand delivered hams to 40 families in the Lind community. Some families received two hams depending on the size of the family.
Knodel especially enjoyed the opportunity to hand deliver the hams and meet just some of the families who received an early holiday gift. With the money he received in donations, every ham purchased was a glazed spiral cut ham ranging from eight to 10 pounds.
Knodel gave out 55 hams in Lind and the remaining hams he donated to Ritzville Food Pantry and to the Washtucna Community Church. Knodel said that Food Pantry was especially grateful because a donation of hams is rare, most families would only receive a turkey.
“Every ham was given with love. The experience was wonderful and I am so thankful,” said Knodel.
With the success of “Hams from the Heart” this year, Knodel hopes that he can continue the fundraiser next year. He believes that every family in the community deserves to have a true holiday ham during the Christmas season.
