Robert Lloyd ‘Bob’ Gillis was born April 14, 1924, in Spokane and returned to his Washtucna farm. He lived for 87 years until December 12, 2011.
Both of his parents, Jeannette Bolick Gillis and Lloyd Angus Gillis, are deceased. His grandparents were early Washington settlers. His mother’s (Jeanette) parents’ homestead was above Asotin, by Eli and Elvina Forgey Bolick in 1886. His father’s (Lloyd) parents were Angus and Ida Campbell Gillis who bought land in 1909 at Washtucna, where Bob grew up. He loved the dry land wheat farming many years before retiring at the Waterford apartment three years ago.
He married Lindalee Galloway in 1950 at the Tulelake Community Presbyterian Church, May 21, 1950. Bob and Linda are members of the Washtucna Community Church. Bob has had a lifetime interest in dry land wheat and barley farming.
Bob, his parents and his children, Robin Lee Gillis and William R. Gillis, graduated from WSC or WSU, in Pullman. He and his two children also graduated from Washtucna schools.
He has had lymphomas for a long time and Parkinson’s. The farm and family were his main concerns, but he also enjoyed activities like Masons and Grange and those things related to grain production and his home life.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lindalee Galloway; his children Robin Lee Gillis and William R. and Emalee Gruss Gillis; and grandchildren Gia Gillis of Seattle and Ray and Corianna Gillis of Spokane.
The funeral service will be held at the Washtucna Community Church on Monday, Dec. 19, 2011, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Dennis Evans officiating.
There will be a viewing at the church prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in memory of Bob to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018.
