What a wonderful weekend for our community! I always look forward to the first weekend in December with the Ritzville traditions. It was nice to sing Christmas carols, while sipping hot chocolate at the Tree Lighting event on Main Street. It was a cold, windy evening. Our mayor, Linda Kadlec shared a wonderful Christmas message. It reminded me, that we need to open our hearts to those around us and share our Christmas joy. The weekend went on with the AAUW Bazaar – a place, where you can find a gift for each person on your list.
Our community has so much talent in the homemade items, crafts, baked goods, and assortment of things to buy.
The movie theater was full of kids and laughter. Fun to be had with friends and family, as we watched “Mr. Popper’s Penguins.” Afterwards, we walked out to see Santa on the fire truck. The little ones got big eyes and were so excited as they got their bag of candy from Santa. They are looking forward to his visit in a few weeks.
It didn’t end there. It was so nice to join together at the Lutheran church on Sunday afternoon to listen and sing with each other in our church choirs. We were all drawn together in the Spirit of Christmas. It was a time to enjoy each other’s musical talent and friendship, as we celebrate the birth of our Savior.
Hopefully, the community choirs can be a tradition each year and maybe more often throughout the year.
Merry Christmas.
Melinda Kiel, Ritzville
