Bazaar brings record number of shoppers

The Saturday, Dec. 3, American Association of University Women Holiday Bazaar was well attended this year, with steady numbers of shoppers during the four hour event. Vendor numbers were down slightly but vendors indicated increased sales, AAUW co-chairs noted.

For the past l0 years AAUW has sold raffle tickets on their themed baskets. Profits this year were the best ever, with more than $500 taken in. This money will fund scholarships for local girls who graduate from area high schools.

Basket winners this year were Angie Hayes, Carmen Schumann, Brenda Johnstone, Gina Weber, Bev Cobb and Lisa Peterson. Basket themes were Bronco, Relaxing, Kids, Local artists/products, Kitchen and Christmas.

AAUW is especially appreciative of all who support the organization by donating items, or purchasing raffle tickets.

Children’s book sales were also brisk, with more than $1,800 in items sold. Book profits are used to purchase books for the local library.

The 2012 bazaar will be on Saturday, Dec. l. Vendors who plan to attend might mark their calendar, as spaces are allocated on a “first come/first serve” basis.

Sherie Schafer is the general chairperson for the event. Other co-chairs include Harriet Lynch and Mary Nell Mason who are in charge of baskets, Nancy Burke is responsible for advertising, Vel Babbitt for the facilities, and Martha Heidenreich and Kylie Fullmer for book sales.
