Eastern Adams County's Only Independent Voice Since 1887
The Ritzville Police Department is gearing up for the annual Shop with a Cop program. Local law enforcement, including the Adams County Sheriff’s Office and the Washington State Patrol will take selected children shopping for Christmas gifts for their siblings and parents.
With the slumping economy, there is greater need in the area. Police Chief David McCormick said the program normally helps 10 children. This year that number has grown to 17. McCormick is reaching out to the community to help local law enforcement make the program successful for all of the children involved.
After the shopping excursion, the children will gather at Zion Philadelphia United Church of Christ where they will have help wrapping the presents. They will also enjoy hot chocolate and treats.
McCormick is looking for donations to support the endeavor and expand it by involving more children if possible. Cash contributions are welcome.
McCormick said wrapping paper, ribbons, bows and gift tags are also needed. To make a donation, please contact the Zion Philadelphia’s Pastor Judith Rinehart-Nelson or Joyce Preston at 659-1440.
