Shepherds Information Day set for Dec. 10

Sheep producers will not want to miss Shepherds Information Day scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 10, announces Tom Platt, Washington State University Extension Educator in Davenport.

Shepherds Information Day will be held at the Spokane County/WSU Extension Learning Center in Spokane located at 222 N. Havana beginning at 9:30 a.m. and ending at 3 p.m. Registration and morning refreshments begin at 9 a.m., and an association meeting will follow between 3 and 4 p.m. Admission is free to area sheep producers, young and old alike.

Platt says Shepherds Information Day offers something for all sheep producers. The morning session begins with a presentation on a Year Around Flock Health Program by Dr. Nichole Leonard. Then, a presentation on Feeding the Breeding Flock will be made by WSU’s Sarah Smith, and she will wind up the morning session with a follow-up presentation on Feeding Commercial and Show Lambs.

Lunch is a potluck affair, with sloppy Joe’s and beverages provided by the Spokane Area Sheep Producers’ Association. All attendees are asked to bring a side dish, salad, or dessert to share.

The afternoon program kicks off with a panel discussion, Shepherd’s Best Tricks: Show and Tell by local sheep producers. The program concludes with a presentation on Managing the Flock at Lambing Time by Dr. Jill Swannack.

Shepherds Information Day is co-sponsored by the Spokane Area Sheep Producers’ Association which serves members throughout eastern Washington and northern Idaho and Washington State University Extension.

WSU Extension programs are offered without discrimination. For accommodation of special need, or for more information, contact Tom Platt, (509) 725-4171.
