Half Full or Half Empty...

I’ve done this long enough to honestly say that when I don’t have a topic to fill a column I usually like to do a weekend wrap up of things that happened and give my take on them. A lot of times these comments actually make sense. So here goes nothing!

The LRS Broncos win a big game in Reardan. Now I would hazard a guess that a lot of Broncos fans would have thought that LRS would have been able to take care of the Indians by a couple of touchdowns or so. But Reardan is very tough at home. After the Broncos scored in the first quarter one might have thought there were a lot more where that came from but it wasn’t meant to be.

Reardan rallied late and would score with less than ten seconds to play. The Indians opted to fake the kick and go for two with an option look but the Broncos defended the play to perfection and stopped Reardan short of the end zone, securing victory 7-6.

Playing Colfax and Reardan on the road two weeks in a row doesn’t seem quite fair but that’s the way it goes. The main thing is that with the victory the Broncos have secured the second place slot which will allow them to host the cross over game which essentially is a playoff with the winner playing on and the loser going home. So the victory last Friday night was huge no matter if the point spread was one or 21. Well done Broncos!

Gray should be a color that is seen in the sky or for the visiting team at a baseball game, not football jerseys. For the second straight week the Cougars wore gray jerseys as the home team and it looks like the team is starting to play as drab as those jerseys look.

I realize that the Cougars colors are crimson and gray but it is time to change the second color to silver. Schools have changed mascots and a few have changed colors like the University of Montana, so why not WSU? Gray is not.

The Seattle Seahawks lost to the Cleveland Browns on Sunday by a score of 6-3. Two professional football teams failing to score touchdowns in a sixty minute game is not a good sign for either franchise. Seattle is using its backup QB Charlie Whitehurst and he obviously wasn’t the answer.

The defense couldn’t get off the field either which made for a long afternoon for them. But by only giving up two field goals the Seahawks gave new meaning to bend but don’t break. I guarantee that that is a lot of bending. The offense needs to get something going and keep the defense on the sidelines to rest a bit. Try it you might like it!

The World Series has been going on and last Saturday night the St. Louis Cardinals clobbered the Texas Rangers by a final score of 16-8. Albert Pujols hit three home runs and had five total hits. On Sunday night, Ranger pitcher Derek Holland shut out the Cardinals 4-0 and Pujols went 0-4. I don’t know how many times that I have seen a team score a bunch of runs in one game and then can’t by a base hit the very next day.

I think a lot of managers are excited when the runs keep adding up but at some point in time they start thinking that maybe we should save some of these runs for tomorrow. I’m sure the Cardinals fans would have loved to take six of those Saturday runs and carried them over to Sunday night. But that is why the games are played.

Finally, the Peyton Manningless Indianapolis Colts failed to show up for the Sunday night game against the New Orleans Saints. The Saints hammered the Colts 62-7. Now the teams that are losing are in the running for the first round draft pick which would most likely be Stanford QB Andrew Luck.

The question that I would have is this: If the Colts have the number 1 pick do they trade it for a couple of veteran players figuring Peyton Manning will be back or do they draft Luck not knowing what Manning’s future will bring?

I’d bet they would go after Andrew Luck. Wouldn’t you?
