Ritzville chamber to give community awards; benefit auction features top items

The Ritzville Area Chamber of Commerce will host its annual Community Recognition Night on Saturday, Oct. 22, at the C.J. Newland American Legion Memorial Hall. The event serves as an opportunity to recognize community leaders, volunteers and students. Eight awards will be presented: Volunteer, Employee, Business, Boy, Girl, Educator, First Responder and Farmer of the Year.

Nomination forms are available at the chamber’s visitors’ center at 111 W. Main Avenue. The center is open Monday through Friday from 10 to 3 p.m.

The deadline to submit nominations is Friday, Oct. 14.

Nomination forms are also available at a variety of businesses throughout the city. The form can also be emailed to those who request one.

The annual event also serves as the chamber’s major fundraiser with a live and silent auction. Warren Kragt will serve as auctioneer.

The event will begin with a social hour at 5:30 p.m. followed by a catered dinner prepared by Blue Bike Catering at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets for the event are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Tickets can be purchased at the visitors center, Columbia Bank and Sterling Savings.

Several top notch items have been donated for the Live Auction. Sterling Savings Bank has contributed a Spokane Chiefs hockey package for 10 people. The package includes use of the Sterling Savings Suite at Spokane Arena for the hockey game, food and non-alcoholic beverages.

Columbia Bank has donated a weekend getaway to Seattle with a two-night hotel stay, a dinner certificate and two tickets to a Seattle Mariners’ baseball game. The buyer of the package will have the chance to select which game they want to attend.

U.S. Bank has donated two tickets to a Gonzaga men’s basketball game when the team hosts Portland State. The Blankenship Brothers Joint Venture has donated a pair of tickets to a Washington State University mens basketball game against UCLA. The Best Western Bronco Inn has contributed a Disney on Ice family package complete with dinner.
