Lind’s agronomy, marketing teams prep for FFA Nationals

Two highly decorated teams from the Lind FFA chapter will travel to Indianapolis this weekend where they will compete next week during the 84th Annual National FFA Convention Oct. 19-22.

Lind High School’s Agronomy and Marketing teams captured first place honors during state events to earn the right to compete at nationals.

Advisor Andy Williams will lead a total of 10 people to the national event, including the seven student competitors.

The agronomy team includes Connor O’Neill, Bridger Smith, Maya Wahl and Scott Diefenbach. The marketing team is Saige Cassidy, Jessica Hernandez and Brandon Knodel.

Leaving this Saturday, the Lind contingent will make a trip to the University of Kentucky at Lexington to visit the program’s wheat breeding operation.

Additionally the competitors will invest some of their time in practice and preparation for the competitions. A team activity is planned for the agronomy members on Wednesday, Oct. 19. Then Thursday, Oct. 20, the individual members of the agronomy team will compete.

The first flight of the marketing competition is slated for that Thursday. If the team finishes among the top four teams in their flight, they will advance to the semi-final round that afternoon. The marketing finals are planned for Friday. Only the top four teams will advance to the finals.

The national convention is expected to bring 55,000 FFA members and guests to Indianapolis. The theme for this year’s event is “I Believe.”
