Eastern Adams County's Only Independent Voice Since 1887
We would like to thank the fair association and volunteers for a great job. We enjoyed the time we spent at the fair. The grounds were beautiful and clean. For a little fair that we know is struggling to survive and keep the wonderful programs and exhibits going, it is hard. We realize volunteers are getting harder and harder to come by. Sad because this fair is a little jewel.
Certainly not the same as of old, but whose fault is that? That part remains the mystery? Lack of participation might be a place to start or even coming and seeing the hard work of those who are trying so hard to make it happen.
The very best part, as we were working, was seeing children rolling and tumbling and having a wonderful time on the grass, enjoying that childhood freedom.
Having lived on the west side and going for years to the Western Washington Fair in Puyallup, as we did again this year and seeing the lack of freedom the children have is rather sad. 1. No grass to roll and tumble. 2. Parents cannot feel safe if they turn their backs for that moment. Oh, yes, more rides, more thrills, more lights but a quality missing that can only be found way back at the small town fair.
A special “thank you” to all the parents, grandparents and mentor that encourage and work with the children. Working with them in 4-H and all the activities that they bring to the fair, whether it is photography, art, quilting, pigs, ducks or dogs, whatever, your encouragement cannot be matched. It is a gift that will last a lifetime.
The best part of the Puyallup … all the counties 4-H and school exhibits. Hours and hours of looking and watching some very amazing young people with lots of dedication.
Oh, and the Crust Pups freshly dipped and fried! Yum. Yum. Never did get to the scones!
