Lady Broncos win Rosalia title

Saturday was a good day for volleyball, especially if you were a member of the Lind-Ritzville/Sprague Lady Broncos.

For the second consecutive year the Lady Broncos captured the championship title during the Rosalia Spikefest Tournament.

This year the event was especially sweet for the Lady Broncos as the junior varsity squad captured the tournament championship among the jayvee teams.

Head Coach Cari Galbreath was full of good news this week in handing down updates. The C squad team turned in impressive work at a tournament in Warden where they finished second overall.

“It definitely was a battle for the varsity to capture the win and leave as champions. We started the day off with pool play, which would then rank us for the tournament play. We played Rosalia first and beat them and then we played Colton and split with them,” Galbreath said.

In all the team played five times.

Against Colton the two teams split with scores of 19-25, 25-18. The Lady Broncos won the second game.

In the semi final match the Lady Broncos squared off against St. George’s. A win there set up a championship round match with Colton.

This match went to three games. The Lady Broncos won the first game and then fell in the second game of the championship match. They battled back to win the third game 15-13.

“It was definitely a great match to watch,” Galbreath said. “Rallies were not your typical three to five seconds, but maybe 60 seconds. I was extremely proud in how much heart the players fought with. We were a comeback team almost all day. And, they won games because they were determined and were able to control our side of the net. It was definitely a big moment for our players and there was a lot of celebration when Colton hit the ball out during a long rally to give us the win!”
