Fair judging leaves much to be desired

I took a piece of needlework out to the fair to be judged and knew for certain it would get a blue ribbon as all hand stitches were perfect. I couldn’t believe it when I went back out to see that it had only received a red ribbon.

The judge’s scorecard was completely blank as to why. Not one word on it. Stinky!

A friend was entering things this week at the fair in Spokane so took my second place item along and entered it in my name. Lots more stiffer competition up there and more items competing, and it walked off with the blue ribbon and the judge’s note “nice work.”

I have often felt out here at our fair, you were being judged when you sat the item down to enter as to who you were, and as to whether the judge liked the item and not on the work itself.

I know each item is a number and not a name when being judged, but found the difference interesting.
