Washtucna's mural project features Ford artist

Part of a beautification project is completed in downtown Washtucna through the efforts of a local organization and numerous donations.

The Washtucna Classic Auto Show launched a project in July to help beautify the town. Using funds from the car show garnered from a roster of volunteers and business sponsors, the south side of the old drug store across from the town’s farm display at the intersection of Main Street and Spring Avenue was pressure washed and painted in primer.

Efforts were in preparation for a mural project on the side of the building.

Show organizer and project coordinator Cliff Plumb contacted Tina Lee Fisher, of Ford, at the 2010 Historic Ritzville Days Western Art Show about painting a section of the mural.

She agreed, and spent several days in Washtucna recently on the project. The mural depicts Fred Wooters and his dog, Sport, delivering sacks of wheat to Washtucna from the Paul L. Burns’ farm around 1920.

Plumb noted that the project is a result of those who have supported the car show through the years, which enables the town to continue its efforts in future projects.

He is still soliciting suggestions and/or photographs of possible mural topics for the other portions of the wall.

For more information and artist inquiries as well as to offer physical or monetary donations, contact Cliff or Lily Ann Plumb at 646-3449.
