Relay For Life sets 2012 dates, committee volunteers needed

Team captains and committee members responsible for the 2011 Relay For Life of Ritzville met at Best Western Bronco Inn on Aug. 22 to discuss the event as well as plan for the upcoming year. The group set the 2012 event for July 13-14, 2012.

Following the meeting, it was determined that Farmers Fighting Cancer was the top fundraising team with $3,512.

Volunteers are needed to fill positions on the committee. For more information about volunteer opportunities, contact a current committee member or the American Cancer Society number listed below.

During the wrap-up meeting, Carol Snyder, community relationship manager for the American Cancer Society, announced that the Ritzville event was one of the top in units donated to the Inland Northwest Blood Center for the area.

A total of 25 individuals registered to donate during the blood drive held at the event in coordination with the INBC, with a total of 21 units collected. Snyder said the total collected was higher than at two larger events – one in Spokane and the other in Moses Lake.

The Aug. 22 meeting also served as Snyder’s finale – with the American Cancer Society and the Ritzville group, which was started her first year with the non-profit group. She is retiring at the end of August.

Jennifer Kronvall will serve as community relationship manager for the Ritzville event with Snyder’s departure.
