Mary Ann Borgens, age 79, of Bremerton died in her sleep on July 31, 2011.
She was born on May 1, 1932, in Lind to Benjamin and Matilda Maier. She graduated from Lind High School in1950.
She married Robert Borgens shortly thereafter and they farmed west of Ritzville until he died in 2002.
She has been said to have a keen sense of humor and she loved people.
In 1978 she passed her training to become an EMT but because she lived far from town was unable to volunteer. She volunteered for the Ronald McDonald House in Spokane.
She also learned to fly and land a plane when her husband got his pilot license. It is said she loved family, camping, toll painting, cooking, sewing and reading.
She is survived by sisters, Betty Borth of Lind, Claira Nelson of Spokane, Dorothy Austin of Umatilla, a brother, Robert Maier of Ritzville; and her children, Scott Borgens of Fife, and Laura (Annie) Borgens of Bremerton; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Prouse, Shannon Pugh, Pauline Whitney, Heidi Borgens, Rose Ann Whitney, Melissa Zamzow, and Anna Kerr; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Robert; her parents, Benjamin and Matilda Maier; and her brother, Floyd Maier.
Visitation will be Friday, Aug. 5, 2011, from noon to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
A graveside service will be held at the Lind Cemetery on Saturday, Aug. 6, at 11 a.m.
A luncheon and fellowship will follow at the Lind Community Church.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Danekas Funeral Home – Ritzville.
