Ritzville Police Report

July 5, 9:45 a.m. — A complainant reported that someone had dumped grass clippings in their dumpster. Police Chief David McCormick responded to the 600 block of South Palouse Street but was unable to find anyone with information regarding who had been using the garbage can.

July 5, 4:36 p.m. — Chief McCormick responded to the 1500 block of Smitty’s Boulevard to investigate a report of a minor traffic accident at the Cedar’s Inn. RV hook up post was damaged by someone staying in the hotel’s RV park. The damage estimate was $150. The person who damaged the property initially refused to pay. After McCormick arrived, the two parties agreed to work out an arrangement.

July 5, 5 p.m. — Chief McCormick responded to the city park on East Tenth Avenue after a reporting party stated that several skateboarders were riding into the street. McCormick contacted the youths and reminded them that they should be using the skateboard park.

July 4, 4:09 p.m. — Officer Tom Gracie responded to the 500 block of East Third Avenue for a report of an animal problem. The reporting party stated a German shepherd jumped into the cab of their truck. The dog did not have a collar or license and was taken to the animal control kennel.

July 3, 8:34 p.m. — While on patrol, officer Gracie located an open garage door at the golf course. The door is part of the golf cart shed.

July 3, 10:42 p.m. — While on patrol officer Gracie discovered an open door on the back side of Ritzville Grade School. No one was inside. A responsible party responded and secured the building. A check of the high school revealed unsecured doors there as well.

July 3, 2:18 a.m. — Officer Mark Cameron observed that political signs in the yards of two residences had been taken down and thrown on the ground. Cameron replaced the signs and checked the rest of the area.

July 2, 11:45 p.m. — A complainant stated that fireworks were still being launched in the 100 block of South Clark Street. Officer Cameron responded and advised the party involved of the allowable times and dates for launching fireworks.

July 2, 12:13 p.m. — Officer Tom Gracie responded to an alarm in the 100 block of West Main Avenue at Ritzville Computer & Internet. The alarm was inadvertently triggered by one of the business’s personnel.

June 30, 2:12 p.m. — An employee of Life Care Center of Ritzville in the 500 block of South Jackson Street reported the theft of their cellular phone. They re-contacted the police department on July 1 to report they found their phone on the floor.

June 30, 11:09 p.m. — Officer Gracie made contact with two subjects who were involved in a verbal dispute in the 700 block of Columbia Street. While there was some pushing and shoving both parties said they were not hit by the other person involved in the incident.

June 30, 10:51 a.m. — Chief McCormick conducted a welfare check in the 100 block of West Fifth Avenue. Everything was fine.

June 29, 8:24 p.m. — Officer Cameron responded to a juvenile problem in the 100 block of East Third Avenue. Two female juveniles reportedly knocked on the door of a residence and were yelling obscenities. Cameron located the juveniles involved in the incident in city park and they were warned about disorderly conduct. Both girls advised Cameron they understood.

June 29, 4:39 p.m. — Officer Cameron observed a juvenile male smoking in the 200 block of East Birch Avenue. He wrote a Notice of Infraction for the possession of tobacco by a minor.

June 28, 4:50 p.m. — Chief McCormick responded to the 600 block of West First Avenue in response to a complaint regarding the theft of Huckleberry Press papers. The delivery driver complained that the delivery person for a different out-of-town publication throws the Huckleberry Press in the trash.

June 28, 3:46 p.m. — Chief McCormick responded to an animal problem in the 100 block of East Tenth Avenue at the Ritzville Golf Course. A complainant advised that a man was taking his dog on the golf course, which is a violation of city ordinance. McCormick contacted the man who admitted that he takes the dog for a run in the morning when he is checking sprinklers. The man said he was aware of the ordinance and there won’t be a problem again.

June 28, 2:44 p.m. — A landlord with property in the 400 block of East Alder Avenue reported the theft of appliances by a past tenant. The tenant moved one to two months ago and removed the appliances and left a $610 water bill. There was no rental agreement in place between the two parties. Chief McCormick recommended that the landlord consider small claims court.

June 28, 2:02 p.m. — A complainant reported the loss of their purse at Ritz Food Mart. Employees there told Chief McCormick that no one turned in a lost purse.

June 27, 3:10 p.m. — Officer Cameron responded to a report of shoplifting in the 600 block of West First Avenue at Harvest Foods. He reviewed surveillance video that showed a male subject shoplifting items from the store. It was determined the subject lives in Washtucna. A citation for third degree theft was mailed to Anthony Sanchez. The value of the stolen items was $3.75.

June 27, 1:42 p.m. — Officer Cameron responded to a report of panhandlers in the 100 block of West Galbreath Way at SunMart. He was unable to locate them.

June 27, 12:43 p.m. — Officer Cameron responded to an unsecured premises report in the 300 block of East Third Avenue. He secured the residence.

June 27, 1 a.m. — Officer Gracie responded to a noise complaint in the 200 block of East Birch Avenue. He contacted an individual and told her to turn the music down.
