Eastern Adams County's Only Independent Voice Since 1887
To the editor:
Monday my husband received a phone call from our grandson telling us he had been in a car accident after attending his friend’s wedding in Panama City, Panama.
He requested a large sum of money to be used to get him out of jail.
We were unable to get in touch with any of our family members to see if he was attending a wedding, so proceeded to send the money. In the meantime I received another call. I proceeded to ask this “grandson” what his sister’s name is then what his mother’s name is. He soon hung up. We did get our money back so all is well.
What we learned: Know all of your children’s and grandchildren’s cell phone numbers, their numbers where they can be reached and the name of their workplace.
Remember to ask questions, “what’s the name of your dog, where did you go to school, what’s grandpa’s name?”
Be smarter than the person who stole your loved one’s phone.
