New faces join candidate races

After a full week of election filings, several positions will have more than two candidates.

At the county level, Patrick Clark will challenge incumbent Sherri Brewer for the assessor position.All positions for the Adams County Public Hospital District No. 2 have two candidates.

Incumbent Stacey Selcho Plummer and David McCormick have filed for Commissioner District 3 while incumbent Joyce Preston will face Jeff Reynolds for Commissioner at Large 2.

Nancy Miller did not file for Commissioner at Large 4, leaving the position open for Curt Greenwalt and Jerry L. Snyder.

The Town of Lind’s governing body will have new faces in Council Position 1 and Council Position 5.

Al Hernandez Jr. and Rosemary Elkington have filed for Position 1, currently held by Larry Koch. Kindra Haase has put her name in for Position 5, replacing John Claypool.

Incumbent Paula Bell will face Jennifer Anderson for Council Position 4.

Mayor Linda Kadlec submitted her bid for reelection, but withdrew on June 13 to leave the race between Martin Deeg and Jan Collard. Deeg withdrew on June 15.

David Grove, who was appointed to the position vacated by Kelly Olson, has filed for Council Ward 1. Darrel Koss did not file for reelection in this position.

Incumbent Barney Streeter will face Debbie Chapman for Council Ward 2 while Gary Cook is the only filer for Council Ward 4.

Eric Ottmar has put his name in for the Council at Large two-year position.

In Washtucna, incumbent Mayor Syd Sullivan will vie to retain his seat against William Cliff Plumb. No one has filed for Council Position 1 or Council Position 2, filled by William Newton and Brian Hille respectively.

The Town of Hatton will retain its incumbents: Michael D. Pherigo, mayor; Rhea Isaac, Council Position 1; Donald Wheeler, Council Position 2; Terry D. Quandt, Council Position 3; and Linda Pitts, Council Position 5.

The Ritzville School District will see the return of Scott Carruth in Director District 1 and Shannon Flynn in Director District 4. Warren D. Kragt did not file for Director District 2.

In Lind, incumbent Beverly Kulm has filed for Director Position 4 and incumbent Rena R. Wahl has filed for Director Position 5.

Jani S. Melcher has put her name on the list for Director Position 2, currently held by Blake Bennett.

Incumbent Annie Trunkle Smart will vie for Director Position 1 against Tom Strohmaier.

The Benge School District has two positions without filings: Director Position 3, incumbent Bryce Ault, and Director Position 4, incumbent James M. Whitman. Incumbent Al Jones has filed for Director Position 1.

The Washtucna School District will continue with its current leadership: Melinda Kay McKeen, Director Position 1; Wayne W. Johnstone, Director Position 3; and Blake Neace, Director Position 5.

Incumbents for Adams County Fire Protection Districts No. 1-4 have filed: Greg Galbreath, Commissioner Position 2 for ACFPD No. 1; LeRoy Watson Jr., Commissioner Position 3, ACFPD No. 2 (Lind); Jon D. Fink, Commissioner Position 1, ACFPD No. 3 (Odessa); and Carl Harder, Commissioner Position 3, ACFPD No. 4 (Harder-McCall).

No one has filed for Commissioner Position 2 for ACFPD No. 6 (Benge), which is currently filled by James Whitman.

Ben W. Sitton has stepped up to fill Commissioner Position 3 for ACFPD No. 7 (Washtucna), which was vacant.

All five positions for Lind Park and Recreation 3 remain vacant.

For Ritzville Park and Recreation 4, incumbent Allison Nichols has filed for Commissioner Position 1 while incumbent Kim Yaeger submitted her name for Commissioner Position 2 and incumbent Kellie Ottmar followed suit for Commissioner Position 3.

No one filed for Commissioner Position 4, held by Stacy Flynn, and Commissioner Position 5, filled by Terry Olson. Commissioner Position 5 remains vacant.

Incumbent Codi Titus has filed for Commissioner Position 2 with the Washtucna Park and Recreation 2. Commissioner Position 1, held by Karyn Allen, and Commissioner Position 3, held by Shannah Davidian, received no filings.

Incumbent Lora Hille has filed for Commissioner Position 3 with Cemetery District 1 (Washtucna) while incumbent Myra Horton filed for Commissioner Position 1 with Cemetery District 3 (Lind).
