Looking back at the spring sports, the Ritzville junior high track team finished strong. In the Bi-County championships at Valley Christian, some of the athletes became Bi-County champions in all of their events! They were Kate Schell, Hugh Hennings and Andrew Witt. Schell took first place in all of her events, which were long jump, 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, and the 4x100 meter relay (with a time of 51 seconds)!
Hennings took first in shot put, 100-meter dash, and the 4x100 meter relay (with a time of 51 seconds). Witt, a seventh grader, also took first place in shot put, 100-meter dash and the 4x100 meter relay. The girls’ 4x100 meter relay team consisted of Tracy Melville, Sam Asmussen, Jenna Bennett and Kate Schell. The boys’ 4x100 meter relay consisted of Andrew Witt, Hugh Hennings, Cort Ruzicka and Kyle Canaday.

There has been Bronco basketball skills camp this week in Ritzville’s Gilson gym. Today is the last day. The camp was coached by high school varsity coach, Dustan Arlt. Students learned basic fundamentals, skills, and proper technique. Camp was fun and everyone there learned a great deal!

The school year is over, and everyone is excited! Sports however, will carry on through most of June. During June 6-10, Bronco football camp for grades 5-12 was going on. Many of the boys were preparing for departure this Monday, June 13, to the Central Washington University football camp. The camp was for incoming freshmen through seniors. The tired Broncos will be coming home today.

The school year is done! This school year flew by so fast! On June 10 this year’s eighth graders enjoyed an eighth grade promotion breakfast that began at 8 a.m. There was delicious food and it was nice for the eighth graders to sit down, relax, and enjoy each other before the beginning of the hectic part of the day!
At 7 p.m., the eighth graders were anxiously pacing the front of Gilson gym in anticipation of their promotion. Everyone looked great as promotion went off without a hitch. The reception was very festive with bright streamers and gerbera daises livening up each table.
The reception also featured delicious cakes that creatively sported the class colors! It was well worth the drive to Odessa to have such beautiful and delicious cakes! Many thanks to Colleen Ruzicka to taking care of the cakes!
The promoting class of 2011 would also like to thank all our parents for their help in making this a great promotion.
We would also like to thank everyone who helped make great memories during our first eight years!

I would like to take a minute to thank Joni Plager and Julie Hartz for doing a great job in the kitchen! Not only did they make sure our students were fed, they occasionally decorated the cafeteria to set a fun environment! Whenever the Associated Student Body (ASB) hosted a dance, Joni and Julie would help with whatever was needed. When the ASB hosted the breakfast for the eighth graders, Plager and Hartz helped with food and made sure everything was ready and available. During the state tests, students would have snacks delivered to the classrooms so they could have a nutritious boost to help them do well on their tests.
It is too easy to assume others know how much they are appreciated. Julie and Joni, you are definitely appreciated! Thanks for all your hard work, and have a great summer!
