Farmer workshop on crop alternatives at Spangle

Many farmers in Spokane and Whitman Counties were unable to seed spring crops due to wet, cold weather. Spokane County Farm Bureau and WSU Extension invite growers to a workshop to discuss alternative plans for the season.

The discussion topics will include management of chemical fallow, fall crop opportunities and seeding dates, plant-back restrictions, and soil fertility. The panelists will include farmers Hal Johnson and Jim Nollmeyer, along with Rich Koenig and Dennis Roe from WSU, and Kurt Braunwart from ProGene Plant Research.

The meeting will be held at the Harvester Restaurant in Spangle on Thursday, June 23, at 6:00 p.m. The workshop is free and open to anyone interested. Coffee and pie will be provided. To help with planning, RSVP by June 20 to Hal Meenach at 509-448-9443 or [email protected]
