  • Making mistakes

    Dale Anderson|Updated Jan 30, 2024

It's kind of interesting when you watch championship games especially at the professional level and think that the players will be so focused and there won't be many mistakes. But mistakes were made and with dropped passes and penalties that allowed the offense to get a fresh set of downs and continue their march towards the goal line. In the AFC game Kansas City would make enough plays to get a lead and hold off the Baltimore Ravens. On one drive in the second half the...

  • Let them play

    Dale Anderson|Updated Jan 23, 2024

I know the NFL playoffs are happening right now and we are down to four teams. There were some good games over the weekend and the AFC and NFC championship games should be really good. But today I want to get caught up with college basketball as the upsets are adding up with top 10 teams taking one on the chin. There are several polls that rate college basketball teams, both men and women and the competitiveness is intriguing. We have seen a bunch of upsets in the last few...

  • That's a bit much

    Dale Anderson|Updated Jan 16, 2024

It is hard to fathom what all happened last week. We know that the UW Huskies were humbled by the Michigan Wolverines. I was looking forward to a good game. I started listening to the game when it was in the second quarter and the score was 17-3. I had other things going on at the time and when I got the game on the radio in my car it was a shock. The game was played on Wolverine terms and the Huskies could never get over the hump and get close enough to make it a good game. A...

  • A pretty good team

    Dale Anderson|Updated Jan 9, 2024

It is hard to predict what type of team that the Eastern Washington Eagles will field each season especially with the transfer portal changing rosters all over the country. The Eagles have lost a few players in the last few years because of it and some really good ones too. Some have made good decisions while a few others have had trouble finding playing time or maybe they have had trouble adjusting to the new coach. When Shantay Legens left for Portland after a Big Sky...

The Davenport Gorillas are currently in the Northeast 2B league with Lind-Ritzville, Reardan, Colfax, Liberty and other schools. WIAA classifies 2B schools as those with 105-224 high s...

  • Missed foul shots cost Odessa

    Byrne Bennett, The Journal|Updated Jan 9, 2024

ODESSA – Free throws are free points if you make them. But the Odessa girls only made 12 of 29 from the charity stripe in a Jan. 5 loss, 52-46, to Northeast 1B rival Wellpinit. Early in the game, the Tigers looked to senior Hayden Schuh, and she didn't disappoint. She drove the lane and crashed the boards to pick up easy points from under the basket. Schuh scored 10 first quarter points, but the Redskins' Raya Hill and Laria Kieffer were hot outside, putting up 16-15 at the b...

  • Wondering what's next

    Dale Anderson|Updated Jan 2, 2024

As a retiree, having a deadline to work with can be a real burden. A guy like me needs to think about what to write three days earlier than normal in order for the paper to be put in place because of the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. Now, I’m not stressed. And I understand completely that everyone should have a chance to get a day off now and then to celebrate with friends and family. So, I guess the first thing I should do is wish everyone a Happy New Year. Each yea...

  • New rules coming for floating docks

    The Journal|Updated Dec 26, 2023

SPRAGUE – Floating dock and walkway owners will have a new rule to contend with beginning Jan. 1. According to the state Department of Fish and Wildlife, the agency will begin requiring the plastic foam used in floating docks and walkways to be fully encased. The agency will require all such foam to be covered in concrete, steel, aluminum or plastic to prevent pieces from breaking off and floating away, officials said. The state won’t initially mandate replacement of existing foam structures, but will require them to be upg...
