LIND - Thousands of fans turned out Saturday, June 8, to witness the destruction of farm equipment during the 35th annual Lind Lion's Club Combine Derby. Weekend festivities also featured a car show, parade through town, a barbecue in the park, car racing, and pickup and grain truck races, including an Australian Pursuit and powder puff races. It has been quite a year for the Pac 12 from football until the final baseball tournament that ended last week. The Arizona Wildcats defeated the USC Trojans 4-3 to earn the last Pac 12 title. LIND — The town will roar to life this weekend as the annual Lind Grand Parade and Combine Derby return to town. The action begins Friday with car and pickup truck racing. Locals and visitors alike with “run what they brung” to Lion’s Club Arena on state Highway 21. YAKIMA - Several Lind-Ritzville/Sprague tracksters brought medals home from the state 2B meet at Zaepfel Stadium from May 23-25. RITZVILLE – The Lind-Ritzville/Sprague Broncos enacted revenge on the Asotin Panthers by winning a winner-to-state game 16-2, advancing the Broncos to state. The district tournament was played on Tuesday, May 14, in Spokane at Dwight Merkel Complex. OTHELLO – A final call for the city adult co-ed volleyball league has been sounded. The city’s annual league will see a closing deadline of Friday, May 24, this week. I can remember years ago when athletes were often called dumb jocks. Oh there were a few that struggled to stay eligible but for the most part players had to understand football or basketball plays, or baseball signals in order for the team to succeed. By that I mean coaches decide to retire from coaching; coach another sport; take some time off; take a job in another district or fill in the blank reason.
