I am sorry, all these fires that have been so massive and destructive causing millions of dollars in damage, with a billion dollars to fight the fire. What a waste to have a devastated forest. What a great country we have, when volunteer Firemen and others, put in time together to control a strong wind driven fire. This is what happened last Friday as an accident on 395 started a fire that had the potential of moving to my farmstead. On the weekend of August 7-8, the Jaeger Family had a reunion. Since some of the family had grown up in Ritzville, we thought it would be the perfect place to meet. What a wonderful town to have such an event. We utilized many of the town’s amenities. We all stayed at the Bronco Inn. We were given a great family room rate, complimentary breakfast, great accommodations and outstanding service. We rented the swimming pool for a private family time on Saturday morning. My goodness, I am sure that there are many seniors who remember the good old days when each state sent delegates to the Presidential Conventions to nominate their party’s candidate. I remember this better than most seniors as I had a relative who was a delegate to the blue party’s conventions. We began our journey going south on Hwy. 395 crossing into Oregon at Umatilla then went west on I-84 along the Columbia River. Between The Dalles and Hood River at the Memaloose rest area, we stopped for our picnic lunch. What do larger school districts do when they have too many seniors that failed the required state biology test that was necessary for graduation? They contact our state legislators and get them to put a two year moratorium on the requirement, till 2017. That way the parents are happy and Johnny and Suzie can go to a college that many are not academically prepared for. I am writing about the influx of flies originating from National Foods chicken ranch and/or the Perfect Blend Plant (which processes chicken manure for fertilizer) near Othello. The fly infestation hits the town of Lind and the surrounding areas with remarkable punctuality, visiting us at least 4-5 times a year. Our earliest infestation occurred in February of this year. As we get close to the August election the Washtucna Pioneer Cemetery Board would like to thank the community for their continued, unwavering support of the cemetery. We rely heavily on levy dollars to maintain and operate the cemetery. Last year we raised our plot rates to $500. This will help with our funding, however we want the community to realize that we typically only sell a handful of plots per year.
