Kenneth Arthur Kanzler, 83, died on June 27. He was born July 3, 1933, in Lind to Arthur and Emma Kanzler. He graduated Lind High School in 1953 then joined the Army. In 1957, Ken married Bernice Dellinger and went to work for the Heron Brothers in Connell until 1967 when he went to work for the Lind Grange Supply. Tommi Sue Swannack, a senior at Sprague High School has earned a position on the Washington State National High School rodeo team. Swannack will be traveling with fellow teammates to Gillette, Wyoming, on July 16-22 to compete at the 69th annual National High School Finals Rodeo (NHSFR) in the goat tying and Light Rifle competitions. The Lind and Ritzville School Board members unanimously approved to allow the Kahlotus School District to join in the athletic cooperative. The decision came at the conclusion of the Boards’ regular meeting on May 22 in Lind. The Kahlotus School District will be responsible for paying a fifth of the costs involved with athletics. The Lind-Ritzville/Sprague track and field athletes who qualified for the State Championships in Cheney, made sure to compete to capture a place on the podium on May 26-27. The group of six competing athletes took home four top finishes during the two-day meet at Eastern Washington University. In spite of the inclement weather this season, the Lind-Ritzville/Sprague tennis team has remained competitive in league play and continues to have a large turnout of athletes. In league competition, the LRS girls’ team has a record of 4-0 while the boys’ team has a record of 3-1.
