In July, the historic downtown business district will have public restrooms. Mayor Linda Kadlec announced the city is moving forward with the purchase of a prefabricated, handicap accessible restroom facility. She and council member Gary Cook have been researching since last November and have settled on a restroom building that is similar to the one located in the park in Harrington. The LRS Broncos took the court against Odessa-Harrington and Wilbur-Creston last week to officially kick off league competition. The Broncos swept both league matches; with the boys winning by forfeit against Odessa-Harrington 4-0, and the girls defeating the same team 5-0. Dozens of students from three local schools traveled to Wilbur on March 13 to compete in the Bi-County Academics competition this month. The students from Lind Elementary School, Ritzville Grade School and Lind-Ritzville Middle School returned home with an impressive amount of awards from placing in the academic contest. The boys’ basketball teams have been working hard at practice and in games. The A-team scored 31 points on Thursday against Wilbur-Creston. The B-team scored 13 points against Odessa-Harrington on Monday. Coach Weishaar said, “The kids played hard, but lost 31-38 to W-C. Dec. 23, 10:34 a.m. – Trinidad, Calif., complainant advised he had paid Adams Automotive to tow his vehicle and now won’t be allowed to collect his belongings out of the vehicle. Sergeant Ben Buriak called the complainant and was advised there was another tow en route to move the vehicle. Four musicians performed at the Rolinco Barn in a pair of recitals in December, with over 170 people attending the two events. The musicians performing (from left) are Bruce Bodden, Alicia Mielke, Greg Presley and Louise Butler. Flutist Mielke was joined by Bodden, her former teacher, on flute, while Presley accompanied on the piano and Butler on cello. Friday’s road trip to St. John-Endicott proved to be a major mismatch in basketball as the LRS Broncos rolled to an 82-14 win in the nonleague tilt. The game served as a scoring milestone for point guard Dylan Hartz. A couple of years ago I received a phone call from my fifth grade teacher, Mrs. Maureen Bourne. The Ritzville Public Library is one of seven libraries in Adams and Lincoln counties that now has extra materials on their shelves because of a grant administered by the Washington State Library. The Connecting Libraries through Resource Sharing grant program has provided $5,000 for the seven public libraries. Ritzville is the lead library receiving the grant, and the Odessa, Davenport, Harrington, Hesseltine (Wilbur), Reardan and Sprague public libraries are partners. The girls’ basketball teams are doing exceptional. They’ve won all of their games so far! There are two teams this year, A-team and B-team. Steve Nygren and Rita Fryberger are this year’s coaches. Lloyd R. Bourne died Saturday, Nov. 30, at the age of 76, following the victory of the Lind-Ritzville/Sprague Bronco football team. His battle with cancer was brief, but his choice to embrace moments with family and friends during that battle was inspiring. He was born Nov. 3, 1937, in Orofino, Idaho, to Harry and Myrne (Hember) Bourne. He graduated from Sprague High School in 1955 and married Maureen Smith in 1957. Harrington writer David Michaelson has received medals from the Military Writer’s Society of America for two of his books. The Ritzville Community Theatre (RCT) group is currently seeking individuals interested in joining the local live theatre cast. The amount of cast members has declined throughout the past year for a variety of reasons and the group is actively looking for individuals to join in order to continue the annual theatre events.
