At the Lind meeting of the Town Council on Dec. 22, several pieces of year-end business were discussed and completed. The meeting began with discussion in regards to the Stormwater Project. At the regularly scheduled Lind Town Council meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 8, Sheriff Dale Wagner presented the council with the 2015 contract between the Town of Lind and the Adams County Sheriff’s Office for renewal. The previous contract outlines the agreement between the two parties for the enforcement of certain laws by the Sheriff’s Office. The Lind Chamber of Commerce has announced the winners of the annual Christmas Light contest in Lind. In the Animation category, Jamie Schmunk won the top prize for her holiday display. Jason Sanger received the Best Use of Lights for his decorations. The first place prize for the Best Traditional light display was awarded to Marlynna Vandervloedt. On Monday, Dec. 21, the Board of Adams County Commissioners approved the Adams County budget for the 2016 fiscal year. County Commissioner John Marshall stated, “The biggest change dollar-wise was not in the amount we have to operate on but in the amount requested.” Within the Current Expense budget there is a total appropriation of $7,847,919 for Adams County in 2016. Three officers from the Ritzville Police Department responded to a call regarding a man on the sidewalk of North Division Street with what appeared to be a gunshot to the head on Dec. 24 at 12:06 a.m. The Adams County Sheriff’s Office also assisted with the investigation. The officers responded to Division Street near Broadway Avenue and discovered Brian Malliot, 42, of Spokane. Callie Moore has served the community at the Adams County Health Department for 26 years and will retire from her position as Nursing Director at the end of the year. Susan Hoff, the nursing director at the time, asked Moore to assist on certain days where the office needed additional nursing staff during clinic hours. The Lady Broncos played the Freeman Lady Scotties in a nonleague game on Tuesday, Dec. 22, where they were able to earn the third victory of their season. The game was hard fought with an ending score of 44-42, the Lady Broncos winning by just two points. The LaCrosse-Washtucna/Kahlotus Lady Tigercats are currently on a two-week hiatus from competition, following a game against Oakesdale on Dec. 22. The Lady Tigercats will return to the hardwood on Jan. 8 to face Pomeroy. The LWK team traveled to Oakesdale and returned home with a 29-63 loss against the Lady Nighthawks. The Lind-Ritzville/Sprague Broncos hosted the Freeman Scotties on Dec. 22 in a nonleague competition, and were unable to match the physicality of the 1A school. The Broncos lost the game with a final score of 42-60.
