    The Ritzville Downtown Development Association has received a $2,000 grant from the Washington Trust for Historic Preservation, through the Valerie Sivinski Washington Preserves Fund. The grant funding is being used to restore and reconstruct the neon, along with the main marquee and awning at the Ritz Theatre.   • Washington Grown television program set to launch on PBS

    The success of Washington Grown continues to expand. Following a successful program launch in October on Northwest Cable News (NWCN), Washington Grown will also be available on Eastern Washington PBS stations starting in January. Beginning Jan. 6, the 30-minute program launches on KSPS (Spokane) and other PBS affiliates.     Birds of Play 4-H club held a GPS meeting on Friday, Nov. 29, in Washtucna. The club had coordinates for five geocaches and followed the first one to Eternal Rest, Bemis Cemetery. Jake Sitton was able to tell us more about the early days of the cemetery. After locating the geocache and signing it we headed for the next one.   • Snyder elected to chair hospital board in 2014

    Jerry Snyder will be the new chairman of Adams County Public Hospital District No. 2 in 2014. He steps into the role held by Stacey Plummer during the past two years.   • Pile up on I-90 leaves one dead, four injured

    A snow storm on Friday, Dec. 20, led to a multiple vehicle crash and resulted in one fatality on Interstate 90 seven miles east of Ritzville around 12:45 p.m. The collision involved nine vehicles, including two semis, and resulted in one death and four injuries.     The LRS Broncos had seven athletes named to the Associated Press All-State football team, with senior quarterback Dylan Hartz being named the Class 2B Player of the Year.     The St. George’s Dragons are all that, and well rested as they settle into their basketball groove. The LRS Broncos discovered that in person Saturday when they fell in league play, 63-41.     After having the St. John-Endicott game cancelled on Friday due to weather conditions, the LWK Tigercats went on the road Saturday, Dec. 21, to face the Touchet Indians. After a close, competitive first half, Touchet ran away with a 54-40 win over the Tigercats in the league match up.     On Friday the Lady Broncos looked solid as they dismantled Reardan, 53-33. The next evening things didn’t bounce their way in the final seconds of a league outing against St. George’s.     In the early morning of Dec. 19, Florence Esther Kiehn died peacefully at the Columbia Crest Care and Rehabilitation Center in Moses Lake of natural causes. Family, friends and familiar staff members just prior to her passing had visited Florence. She was the daughter of Albert and Lena Dehnel.
