With the upcoming holidays deadlines to submit ads and content to The Journal have been moved up. During the week of Christmas the deadline to submit ads for the Dec. 25 edition is noon on Monday, Dec. 22. The deadline to submit content is 5 p.m. on that date as well. Area churches are hosting special Christmas services to celebrate the holiday season. Saint John’s Lutheran Church will be caroling at the Rose Garden Estates at 2 p.m. and at the Life Care Center at 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 21. At the 17th Christmas Parade in Lind on Sunday, Dec. 14, seven floats were entered into the annual lighted contest. The Lind Chamber of Commerce and the Lind Lions Club sponsor the parade and holiday festivities surrounding the event. At the Dec. 16 meeting of the Ritzville City Council Dede Rawlings took her oath of office and was officially seated on the council. She filled the vacant position of City Council, Position Ward Two. The Ritzville Library District No. 2 recently added 83 new books to the children’s and teen rooms. The books, which had a total retail value of 1,405.44, were purchased through generous donations from community members. Linda and Marty Erdman, Theresa and Scott Fitch and one anonymous donor contributed $210. The Ritzville Library Foundation contributed $140. The Libri Foundation matched donations 2-to-1 with $700. PATROL CAR. At the annual convention of the Internation Association of Chiefs of Police, WSP Trooper Tyler Fryberger drew the winning key for the Washington State Patrol to receive a new patrol car. Fryberger volunteered to drive the car back from the convention in Florida, with his wife Rita joining him on the trip. The Ritzville 41st Holiday Bazaar has been announced as a successful event, as shoppers from the surrounding area ventured to the Ritzville Grade School on Dec. 6 to complete holiday shopping. The shoppers came from Ritzville, Lind, Warden, Spokane and many other towns to help support the vendors by having good sales experiences. During the event, Soup It Up provided lunch and snacks. While families and residents gathered on the sidewalks of Lind last Saturday to see floats lit up in Christmas lights, Bernice and Kenneth Kanzler climbed into their Grand Marshals car with smiles brighter than any light in the parade. The Lind Chamber of Commerce selected the Kanzlers to serve as the Grand Marshals for the 17th Christmas Parade on Dec. 14. Dean Roy Schwisow was born April 18, 1957, the second of four boys to Marvin F. and Joan M. (Oestreich) Schwisow. He died December 11, in Life Care Center of Ritzville, at the age of 57. Dean lived his life in Ritzville, was baptized and confirmed in the Emanuel Lutheran Church. For years he delivered the early morning newspaper.
