The ambulance purchased with community donations to serve Lind will likely not leave its garage during the next several months. The Lind Ambulance Association is officially down to one Emergency Medical Technician who is willing or able to respond to medical emergencies. As a result, EMTs and an ambulance from Ritzville or Washtucna will be sent to Lind in the event of an emergency. In 2010, Lionel Delevingne and Steve Turner produced a book titled “Drylands: A Rural American Saga,” which the content focused on agricultural development in Adams County. Lionel Delevingne is a native of France but moved to the United States in 1975 to pursue a career in photography. The Adams County Commissioners unanimously approved the 2012-2017 Six Year Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) during the morning session on Monday, Dec. 5. Adams County Assistant Public Works Director Scott Yaeger presented the TIP plan explaining the specific differences and changes from the previous years. Stephen McFadden of Ritzville has been appointed to the Big Bend Community College Board of Trustees by Gov. Chris Gregoire. McFadden is the publisher of the Ritzville Adams County Journal. He’s been a print journalist since 1985, and is a past president of the Washington Newspapers Publishers’ Association. The Lind community braved the frigid temperatures last Sunday night to celebrate the Christmas spirit and rejoice in the holiday season. The festivities began at 3 p.m. at the Lind Senior Center, the hot spot of the night to get warmed up. Ritzville Medical Clinic and East Adams Rural Hospital have joined the nearly 1,100 healthcare providers, 29 hospitals, and 578 employers who participate in the Eastern Washington Center of Occupational Health & Education (COHE) project. Hanging on the wall in my office in Ritzville is a brochure outlining plans for a multi-million dollar sports complex. The Lacrosse-Washtucna Tigercats had a pair of difficult outings during the past week after winning a Friday night game over Garfiled-Palouse, 49-36. The Tigercats fell to Colton 70-36 on Saturday night and then were handed a tough loss, 55-46 against Tri-Cities Prep on Tuesday, Dec. 13. A big non-league win over Odessa-Harrington last week wasn’t enough to propel the Lady Broncos of Lind-Ritzville/Sprague to victory over a pair of league opponents this weekend. On Tuesday, Dec. 6, they defeated OH, 43-28. Friday they fell on the road at Davenport, 53-37. Saturday they hosted Reardan and were crushed 70-29, by the league favorite. The weekend was unkind for Lind-Ritzville/Sprague basketball fans as league opponents Davenport and Reardan defeated the Broncos on Friday and Saturday. During Saturday’s home game against Reardan, the Broncos were sent to the showers after a tough loss, 67-43. Lind-Ritzville/Sprague assistant football coach Jason Aldrich has been selected as District Seven Assistant Football Coach of the Year. Washington Interscholastic Activities Association divides the state into nine districts. Each district selects a head coach, assistant coach and junior high coach as their coach of the year. This year the math reasoning class and the AG 3/4 classes at Lind High School have combined together to participate in the First Robotics Competition. The FRC is a contest where we are given six weeks to design, build, test, and fix a robot to do a set task. We will not know the task until Jan. 7 which is our kick off in Cheney. Lind High School now has a robotics team among their high school students that plans to participate in the largest robotics competition in the United States this upcoming year. The team will consist of 20 students and they will be building a robot to use in a competition in 2012. Daniel Lee Jordan, “Old West Artist,” died in Goldendale, on Nov. 30, 2011, at the age of 64. He was born to William and Rosemary (Moews) Jordan on April 27, 1947, in Pekin, Ill. He grew up in Marquette Heights and graduated from Spalding Institute. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1966 and was active in the Vietnam War. Robert Lloyd ‘Bob’ Gillis was born April 14, 1924, in Spokane and returned to his Washtucna farm. He lived for 87 years until December 12, 2011. Both of his parents, Jeannette Bolick Gillis and Lloyd Angus Gillis, are deceased. His grandparents were early Washington settlers.
