The LWK Tigercats started the basketball a preseason match up against Soap Lake on Saturday, Dec. 7, and the Tigercats returned home with a 50-57 loss to Soap Lake. Mike Stubbs has moved from an assistant coaching position with the team into the head coach role this season, and said the preseason game served as a good baseline for the team. The Tigercats graduated seven seniors from the roster last year, and Stubbs said the Soap Lake game helped start a foundation for the upcoming season. Leading the Tigercats this season...
One explosive play in the first 16 seconds of the game proved to be the play the Broncos needed most to ensure they would successfully defend their WIAA 2B State Championship from 2012. Connor O’Neill bolted through the crowd of Morton-White Pass defenders and sprinted to the sidelines for a 69-yard stroll into the end zone that gave the Broncos a touchdown Saturday in the opening moment of their title rematch with the Timberwolves. O’Neill scored just 16 seconds into the fir...

I’ve been around long enough to see some great Bronco football games. This year’s Bronco team was as solid as there has ever been. It was hard to imagine how this team would measure up to Morton-White Pass in a rematch of last year’s game. This year the Broncos were healthy and the Timberwolves had a couple of kids hurting. The one thing I should have realized is that whenever the Broncos have played for a championship and won the games were memorable and nail biters until the...
Many of us who buy uninsured motorist insurance do so because statistics tell us that 20 percent of drivers are irresponsible and either don’t have insurance or it is inadequate. Now Obama Care comes along and we are forced to give up our policies to cover people, many of whom are irresponsible and don’t take care of themselves. The A.C.A. Statistics show 15 percent or 40 million people are not covered because of pre-existing conditions or they can’t afford it or don’t want it. I believe that most of us who pay our own way wo...

After 48 years of writing this column, I have decided it’s time to pack it in. Thanks to the trend on the part of the public to computer news rather than newspapers, I have only a handful of customers left although at one time the combined circulation of the papers that bought the column was larger than the circulation of the Seattle Times. True, I lost a few that disagreed with my opinions which tend to be conservative, but I never was an out and out Republican. I merely acknowledged that I believed more in the Republican p...

Have you heard of the Ethanol Shuffle? One step forward, two steps back. Actually, it’s not a dance; it’s part of California’s clean energy policy – a program our governor wants to emulate. Gov. Inslee recently signed a pact with California, Oregon and British Columbia pledging to support cap-and-trade, carbon taxes and low-carbon fuel standards as part of his climate change agenda. Why should you care? Because you will be paying the bill. The governor’s own consultants estimate that his low-carbon fuel regulations will incr...
