Bill and Jeanette Wills have the honor of being the Grand Marshals for the Lind Chamber of Commerce’s 12th annual Lind Christmas Parade on Sunday, Dec. 11. Jeanette Wills was born and raised in Lind, while Bill Wills grew up in Kentucky. The Ritzville High School Theatre Arts students will be putting on a production called “The Fearsome Pirate Frank” on Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. in the grade school gym. Sterling Savings Bank has extended the deadline of the Giving Tree event to conclude on Friday, Dec. 16. There are still 30 ornaments left on the tree waiting to be adopted by community members. Big Bend Community College has donated eight more computers to the Ritzville library for the community to use. The computers will be located downstairs in the library and will be available for full use sometime in the next few weeks. There are already seven computers at Ritzville High School and five at Lind High School that have been donated by Big Bend. The Lind-Ritzville/Sprague Lady Broncos delivered two wins to the start of their season, hanging on to defeat Columbia-Burbank last Friday in overtime, 50-48. The first wrestling outing of the season was a good tune up for the Lind-Ritzville/Sprague Broncos as they prepare for a season on mat action on the road. The LaCrosse-Washtucna boys gained their first win against Garfield-Palouse on Saturday, Dec. 3, with a final score of 53-35. The starters for the Tigercats were Darcy Stamper, Matt Stubbs, Austin Summers, Justin Wargo and Jake Aune. Friday’s battle with Columbia-Burbank ended on a positive note as the LRS Broncos opened their basketball season with a win, 41-38. The holiday season is said to be the ‘season of giving,’ and this holiday season, a local teen is doing just that. A group of Lind students, and some parents, gathered together early Sunday morning in the high school cafeteria to begin the revitalization of the Christmas spirit. The cafeteria had been previously decorated by Mickie Stanley, the head cook at the high school, and was tragically destroyed by vandals in the prior weekend. As a former track and field athlete both at Ritzville as well as in college I have had the opportunity to visit several facilities across the nation both at the high school and collegiate level. Our current facility is inferior to most I have seen, including some of the poorer rural areas in Alabama. It was nice to sing Christmas carols, while sipping hot chocolate at the Tree Lighting event on Main Street. It was a cold, windy evening. The Saturday, Dec. 3, American Association of University Women Holiday Bazaar was well attended this year, with steady numbers of shoppers during the four hour event. Vendor numbers were down slightly but vendors indicated increased sales, AAUW co-chairs noted. For the past l0 years AAUW has sold raffle tickets on their themed baskets. Franklin Corwin “Frank” Sellars Jr. age 82, of Gearhart, Ore., died Nov. 3, 2011, in Seaside, Ore. He was born Jan. 14, 1929, in Ritzville to Franklin Corwin Sellars Sr. and Helena Clodius. After losing his father at an early age, he was raised by his mother during the Depression, and worked at restaurants and odd jobs. George Francis Crawford, age 89, died peacefully on Nov. 29, 2011. He was born in Frederick, Okla., on Nov. 28, 1922, to Maude and Marlin Crawford. He was the oldest of four children.
