The Lind Chamber of Commerce is hosting its first Zombie Walk weekend on Oct. 28-29 at Lind Town Park with several activities planned for both days. On Saturday, Oct. 28, the event kicks off at 4 p.m. with the Zombie costume contest where judges will award prizes in the following age categories: 6-10 years old, 11-17 years old and 18 years and older. The Ritzville Area Chamber of Commerce is partnering with local businesses to host the annual Toddler Trick or Treat event on Tuesday, Oct. 31. Toddler Trick or Treat is for children age five and under, and all children need to be accompanied by an adult. Businesses throughout Ritzville will participate in the event and have treats available. At their Oct. 17 meeting, the Ritzville City Council discussed several topics, including water meter testing. Clerk-Treasurer Kris Robbins said staff is conducting meter reading for the last time this year. She explained the handheld system recently went down and while the system’s warranty will cover the cost of repairs, staff will research funding opportunities to potentially purchase additional water meters and new equipment. The Broncos cross country team had success at the 1B/2B District 7 Championships on Oct. 21. Rose Melville finished second in the varsity girls’ 5,000-meter race with a personal record of 20 minutes and 37 seconds. Doris Kathryn Reimann Taylor born in Wenatchee on Oct. 24, 1927, died on Friday, Sept. 29, at Careage of Whidbey rehab center in Coupeville, Washington.
